Low Flow Diversion System Pump Repairs

As you know, Public Works assists other departments in many ways. Last Friday an issue with the pumps for our storm drain low flow diversion system occurred, which Montrose is responsible to repair. The low flow diversion system is a structural system that diverts polluted water away from the ocean, and sends it to our sewer system. It is important that the system is working to reduce pollution levels in our harbor. Our Public Works crews assisted with the repairs by operating our vacuum truck, which was used to clear debris from the pump system. On a side note, the Montrose crews clear the low flow diversion system several times a month with the use of the vacuum truck as well.

Work Along Waterfront Continues

Our last update mentioned how our crews were primarily focused on the beautification of our waterfront areas to prepare for the busy visitor season. This week crews weeded the area along Casino Way, and performed repairs to the irrigation system in this area. They also planted several new oleander plants, which tend to grow quite well here. Work also began on the Sombrero Fountain, which is getting a minor makeover. The old peeling paint was removed, and new paint will be applied to make it look fresh. Several plants were also put in place there to help spruce it up. This makeover is long overdue, which both residents & visitors will appreciate.

Weed Abatement Continues

Crews continued to work on our weed abatement, which must be completed by June 1. This week they worked on the areas around City Hall, which also included our Casita. They also worked on the area along Tremont Street ravine from Five Corners to Clemente Avenue. As mentioned previously, the tremendous amount of rain we experienced this winter/spring has really made this a difficult task compared to other years. Some are the areas we cleared earlier may need a second pass, which also makes this project more of a challenge. We are however on pace to have all of our weed abatement completed by the June 1st deadline.

Harbor Maintenance Update

Harbor Maintenance continued to prepare harbor for the busy boating season. Crews once again worked on servicing the floats throughout the harbor, which included the floats for the Casino dinghy dock. They also installed the floats and ramp for the Clubs dinghy dock, which is located between the Yacht Club & Tuna Club. So far everything is on schedule, and we should be ready for another busy summer season in our harbor.
