[ARCHIVED] Public Works Update - 12-16-2022

Pumpout Float

Various Public Works Tasks

With the holidays settling in many of our Public Works crew members are taking a well-deserved extended vacation. Since we have a limited crew our larger projects get put on hold until after the holidays. This is the time of year when we focus on getting some housekeeping done at our warehouse and maintenance yard. Crews spent a couple days cleaning & reorganizing several areas in our warehouse, which was sorely needed. This gives us a chance to also review our inventory, and determine what our needs are. Some work needed to be done at the cemetery, which primarily included performing repairs to the ash niche walls. The hardware holding the ash box panels tend to corrode over time, and need to be replaced. Many of the panels were cleaned as well. Crews also delivered the used forklift that was recently purchased that will essentially replace the one used at the WWTP.

Pumpout Float Update

Our Harbor Maintenance crew, and Jon Gilbert, continued to make great progress on our new pumpout float. Most of the plumbing was installed inside of the float, which isn’t an easy task due to the tight space that exists there. Some of the electrical wiring & components were installed as well. We are hoping to have the sewage pumps and water stanchions fully installed some point next week. As with any project, a few surprises have popped up causing us to divert from the original plan. Crews were able to quickly rectify these issues. A few other last minute adjustments were made to allow the float to be more easily maintained, which will us save time & money down the road. A final update on the float will be provided once it is competed.
